Matthew James Thomas will say farewell to his corner of the sky on March 30, when he departs the Tony-winning, circus-inspired revival of Pippin. As he leaves the big top behind, Thomas reflects on his “transformative, isolating and inspiring” year on Broadway. Star Files Pippin How do you feel now that you’re leaving? Excited, sad (of course) and like I’ve grown a few extra backbones. What will you miss most about the job? This life, so far, has left me with rather severe nostalgia. That feeling of the deep bone grind, that impossible last performance of the week when you already gave everything you had at the matinee performance and somehow you know you will find it again, from absolutely nowhere, because you have to…it’s the rules…your rules. I will deeply miss the audience as I have never really felt such a deep and intuitive connection with them. I’m the luckiest guy alive to share in the responsibility of a production. It is what I live for. I hope to “find it” again someday, and of course have no certainty. Pippin is an incredibly smart piece of work, and this version of the show, in particular, truly serves to carve out the most important statements that it makes. It will hurt to be away from such a profound piece of theater made up of such an inspirational, superhuman cast and crew. What advice would you give to future employees in your job position? Eat lots of protein… Love and listen as hard as you can. What was the hardest thing? The physical and mental exhaustion—and always being the guy saying, “Sorry, I can’t come out tonight.” What was the easiest thing about the job? Listening to it and working with some truly incredible people. I’d start naming names but I’d be here forever. Falling into the show in ways I would have never predicted. Also, I can’t live with the idea of the experience or my performance getting stale. I feel like I have given everything I had, to every single show, and I wouldn’t want it to be any other way. New Delhi: The Karnataka Premier League match fixing and spot fixing scandal has gotten bigger and the arrest of two players in CM Gautam and Abrar Kazi has sent shockwaves in Karnataka’s cricketing fraternity. The arrest of CM Gautam, in particular, is massive considering the amount of experience and contributions that he has done for Karnataka cricket during their glory days. The arrest has come during the 2019 Karnataka Premier League in which they have been accused of involvement in match-fixing in the final between Bellary Tuskers, also known as Ballari Tuskers and Hubli Tigers. Both have been accused of accepting Rs 20 lakh each for slow batting. The charges on Gautam, who has been included in the Goa side for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, is significant due to his experience in the domestic circuit. Known as Chidhambaram Muralidharen Gautam, he was born in Bangalore and made his First Class debut in 2008 for Karnataka against Uttar Pradesh. As a wicketkeeper, he was solid and filled up the void left by long-serving Karnataka keeper Thilak Naidu admirably. However, in 2012/13, he achieved his breakthrough year in domestic cricket.His contributions with the bat helped Karnataka go the distancen in the 2012/13 season. His 257 against Vidarbha and his 264 against Maharashtra was the pinnacle of his batting performances. Apart from big scores, Gautam showed that he could modify his approach to batting when the situation demanded. Against Tamil Nadu, he smashed 130 and scored 71 in a tense game against Delhi to help Karnataka win despite conceding a first innings lead. His 943 runs in the 2012/13 season at an average of 117 helped Karnataka achieve the double treble of winning the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare and Irani trophy in two consecutive seasons. His performances in the Ranji Trophy helped him get a spot in the India A side for the series against Australia in 2013. Even in the Indian Premier League, he has been part of three teams, being selected for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians. The Jamaican government is moving to repeal outdated laws in a major push to impose tougher fines and penalties for breaches.Justice Minister Delroy Chuck disclosed that the Legal Reform Department of the Justice Ministry is reviewing more than 800 laws as part of the overhaul. “Members will recall that there was a certain person from St. Catherine, who when he had (an) immigration charge and was convicted for an immigration offence, he was only charged J$100 because that was the maximum penalty,” Chuck recalled. “What the legal reform of the Parliament has done, members, is to take these, all the laws of Jamaica, 850 that had penalties in them, we’re putting 14 matrices for the ministries. So every ministry have will now have to look at the penalties that now exist…and to make recommendations as to what the penalty should be,” he revealed. Chuck, who made the announcement in Parliament on Tuesday, said the move will begin in his ministry with the hope that “other ministries will follow suit.” He added that the new legislation will be tabled in Parliament this fiscal year.
