Shakespeare DESERVES to stay as Leicester City boss, Cottee tells talkSPORT

first_imgCraig Shakespeare deserves to be handed the Leicester City job full-time, according to former Foxes star Tony Cottee. The 53-year-old, who took over from Claudio Ranieri in February, has guided last season’s Premier League champions away from relegation danger and to the Champions League quarter-finals.His short-term contract expires this summer but, with eight wins from his 14 games in charge, Cottee hopes to see Shakespeare given an extended deal.Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “I think he deserves the job.“I didn’t agree with the Ranieri sacking but, to be fair, they got it spot on because they have stayed up and Craig Shakespeare has done a fantastic job.“If the players are happy, if they are enjoying their football again and they are getting results, which they have been, then give Craig Shakespeare the job.“If it doesn’t work out at the start of the season, then perhaps look at an alternative.“He deserves the chance for what he has done. Let’s not forget how well they have played in the Champions League as well to get to the quarter-finals.“He deserves the job and I think a lot of Leicester fans will be disappointed if he is not given the chance.”last_img read more
