GAA NEWS: RED HUGHS U13 GIRLS FACE NAOMH COLUMBA IN COUNTY FINAL THIS WEEKEND

first_imgRed Hughs GAA News:Senior Men The senior lads left heartbroken after losing out to Naomh Ultan in the Junior A final replay in Mc Cumhaill Park On Saturday evening. The Naomh Ultan lads started on the front foot and took the game to out lads from the first whistle. They were 1-2 to no score up after only 11 minutes  of the first half. The Reds struggled to get into the game and missed a few chances to get on the score sheet. The Dunkineely men added another point to go 1-3 to no score ahead. It was in injury time that the Reds got a life line. A free from Damien dropped short and fumbled by the full back. Pauric Mc Menamin was first to react and punched the ball into the net. That was to be the last action of the first half. Half time score was Red Hughs 1-0 Naomh Ultan 1-3The second half was only 4 minutes old when disaster struck once more, a high ball into the box was not dealt with and ended up falling kindly to a Dunkineely forward and he finished it to the net to go 2-3 to 1-0 in front again. The Dunkineely men were reduced to 14 men in the 8th minute of the second half for a second yellow card offence. The Reds then upped the ante and pushed forward. A point from Damien Brown and another from Dylan Irwin started the revival. A well taken goal then from Calvin Bradley narrowed the gap to a single point as the Reds started to boss the game. With ten minutes to go the game became stop start with injuries on both sides. This broke the momentum that the Reds had going. The Naomh Ultan lads scored another point to open the gap to 2 points. But the Reds kept plugging away Damien scored a long range point to bring it back to a one point game on the stroke of 30 minutes played. With 4 minutes injury time to play it was frantic stuff. Three minutes into injury Johnny Carlin scored the best point of the game knocking over a long range point from the outside of his left foot to tie the game up. Naomh Ultan had one last attack and earned themselves a 45 that was struck over by there centre half back. The Dunkineely lads one the kick out and held the ball until  the referee sounded the final whistle to break the hearts of the Red Hughs lads.
